Lifetime Lab @ Old Cork Waterworks , with our popular visitor experience, interactive exhibit area, dedicated classroom space, onsite playground and historical importance to Cork City, is an ideal location to engage primary school children with science and maths (STEM subjects). We offer a range of SESE curriculum linked, hands on, Discover Primary Science and Maths accredited workshops and school outreach from September to June. Historical school tours of the Old Cork Waterworks are also available. Discover Primary Science & Maths School Tours
School Tours of the Old Cork Waterworks are facilitated by helpful and friendly staff. A 90 minute primary school tour includes discovery time at our interactive exhibition where children will be entertained and stimulated while learning about energy, water, waste and a whole range of other environmental issues. In the Steam Centre, they will also get an opportunity to appreciate the technology used in the past to supply water to Cork city. Children can let off their own brand of steam in the playground and garden before departure.
Exploring Primary Science Teacher Summer Course - July 2018
Lifetime Lab is please to offer a summer course for primary school teachers who would like to build knowledge and confidence in the teaching of primary science - "Exploring Primary Science" will take place from July 2nd - 6th with full details available in early May.
S.E.A.I. Energy Workshops
Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) have teamed up with Lifetime Lab to provide a series of interactive hands-on energy workshops for Cork primary schools pupils.There are two workshops on offer, Senior Energy Workshops are aimed at 3rd-6th class and "Guzzler" Energy Workshops which are suitable for 1st and 2nd class.
MathsWorks - Primary Maths Workshop
MathsWorks is a stimulating and funs introduction to primary maths, motivating pupils to engage primary maths through sight,sound, touch and movement. Each workshops includes a short presentation before children participate in a series of hands on maths based activities covering multiplication, symmetry, transformations and problem solving. Explorers - Primary Marine Science
The Explorers Education Programme aims to integrate marine themes as closely as possible with lessons already taught in national schools through the Social Environment and Scientific Education (SESE) curriculum and other cross-curricula subjects. Lifetime Lab, in association with Galway Atlantaquaria and the Marine Institute, offer "Marine Projects in Class" for 5th & 6th and "Marine Science Workshop" which is suitable for 3rd & 4th. Teachers will be provided with class schemes, recommended education resources and lesson plans to support cross curricula project over the duration of the programme.
Primary Science Workshops
Update 4th September 2017 - Our Primary Science Workshop programme is now fully subscribed for the 2017-18 school year.
Primary schools children participate in hands on science investigations, discovering topics such as Energy, Electricity and Magnetism, Forces, Materials , Rocks and Soils, the Senses and many more. Our primary science workshops focus on the skills, concept development and content objectives of the SESE Science Curriculum. Throughout the design of the hands on workshops we are mindful the primary science activities presented would be modeled on and represent feasible classroom practice.
