This July Lifetime Lab will run a new summer course for primary school teachers who would like to build up their knowledge and confidence in the teaching of science –‘Exploring Science at Lifetime Lab’.
Building on the success of Lifetime Lab’s science workshops for primary school classes this will be very much a practical summer course with examples of hands on activities using everyday items that can be used in the classroom to develop science skills and concepts and encourage discovery and investigation. The teacher summer course will also explore the use of ICT tools such as interactive whiteboards, computer applications and web based resources to enhance the teaching of science in the primary school classroom.
Topics covered will include:
Energy and Forces: Developing teachers’ knowledge and understanding in the areas of Light, Sound, Heat, Magnetism, Electricity and Forces.
Materials: Modeling approaches to science investigations in the Materials strand.
Living Things/Human Life: Developing teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the Five Senses and the Digestive System and the importance of eating a balanced diet.
Skills Development: Demonstrating science investigations that develop the skills needed to work scientifically and practical activities to develop designing and making skills.
The summer course will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided for morning break and tea, coffee and sandwiches for lunch at 1pm.
