Explorers Marine Science returns to Old Cork Waterworks
A collaboration between Lifetime Lab, the “Explorers” Primary Marine Outreach and Education Programme and the Marine Institute will bring some of the wonders of marine life to over 1000 Cork primary school children this March.
The Explorers Education Programme aims to integrate marine themes as closely as possible with lessons already taught in national schools through the Social Environment and Scientific Education (SESE) curriculum and other cross-curricula subjects. The programme is funded by the Marine Institute and co-coordinated by Galway Atlantaquaria. The initiative will deliver marine science workshops to 3rd and 4th class groups from 40 Cork primary schools. The program involves a hands on marine science workshop at Old Cork Waterworks Experience and a follow up visit to classrooms to review project work.
The workshop element will run over three weeks from Monday 11th to Friday 29th March with classroom visits to commence in early May. Pupils will engage in activities on the themes of "Living Things and Environmental issues" and Materials, Energy and Forces" and prepare a project based on their learnings.
