Families once again turned out in huge numbers for the annual Lifetime Lab Water Open Day on Saturday 29th August as enthusiastic visitors who flocked to the old waterworks on Lee Road to enjoy stands and water related activities organised by the Lifetime Lab team.
The event is run annually to celebrate Water Heritage Day as part of national Heritage Week. The aim is to help children and adults learn about water through a series of hands-on activities.
Enthusiastic volunteers manning the science stands captivated their audience with interesting information and hands on activities for the kids. You could learn to be a ‘Water Detective’ and use technology to see if water was safe to drink, find out about different types of rocks and where you could find groundwater, ask if there is water on mars and also see for yourself the wide range of creepy crawlies that live in our streams. This year water safety and water hobbies also featured.
Children scoured the site looking for little water drop cards, families also got a chance to make sea snakes at the very popular creation station. As always the ‘Water Rocket’ launches in the Lifetime Lab garden were a top attraction closely followed by the highly enjoyable ‘Water Fun’ stand where children learned how to blow giant bubbles using an ingenious combination of drinking straws and string.
