Lifetime Lab Schools Science Programme

Minister for Education and Science Batt O’Keefe TD officially launches 2008/09 Lifetime Lab Schools Science Programme

Lifetime Lab was pleased to receive Minister for Education Batt O’Keefe for the launch of the 2008/09 Lifetime Lab schools science programme on Monday 22nd September 2008. Pupils from 5th class Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Glasheen were on hand to show Minister O’Keefe and guests numerous hands on experiments based around water as part of the workshop.

Lord Mayor Cllr. Brian Birmingham commented  “Cork’s diverse range of industries rely on a continued stream of high level graduates and Cork City Councils hope is that the Lifetime Lab Science Programme will encourage many students in Cork to pursue science as a career.”

Speaking at the event Minister O'Keefe highlighted the importance of science and engineering to not just the Cork region but to the entire Irish economy and said the pupils who attend Lifetime Lab today are the potential scientists, doctors and engineers of the future, who in turn will make Ireland one of the top knowledge based economies of world.

Lifetime Lab schools science programme is a unique colaboration between Cork City Council and the Department of Education and Science who provide two qualified teachers. The programme has welcomed over 7000 primary school pupils from all over Cork City and County to date, all of which have traveled on a dedicated bus funded by the Johnson & Johnson family of companies.
