STEPS to engineering and Lifetime Lab teamed up on Wednesday the 4th of March to run a number of K’NEX Challenges as part of the new Xperience Engineering Project, which attracted schools from all around the Cork region. These schools developed their projects based on the theme ‘Engineers Save Lives’ and a great day was had by all.

For the 2008/2009 Primary School academic year a brand new initiative was introduced by STEPS to engineering to over 800 schools throughout Ireland. ‘Xperience Engineering’ is a project-based programme that was designed to educate primary school children about the wonderful and exciting world of engineering, in both a fun and interactive way. This year over 70 Primary Schools from Cork took part and have been working hard in developing an engineering project in line with this year’s theme ‘Engineers Save Lives’. Throughout the year each of these schools have been taking on a number of interactive activities such as K’NEX Challenges, fieldtrips to various engineering related locations and working on monthly worksheets uploaded on www.steps.ie
STEPS to engineering was established in 2000 to encourage primary and post primary students to explore the world of science and engineering. The value of the programme has been formally recognised by Government and is a key element of the National “Discover Science & Engineering programme.
