Learning and awareness of the environment is very much a part of the Scout development programme with various projects are undertaken to gain merit badge awards, shown on the Scouts uniform to show that a Scout has undertaken a personal task in order to be awarded the honour of wearing that badge on their uniform.

Glanmire 46th/92nd Cois Laoi Corcai has over 115 youth members ageing from 7 to 16 across three sections. 17 volunteer Adult Scouters take the responsibility to look after these youth members , hosting four meetings per week. From the entry level Beaver stage, young members are encouraged to be aware of our surroundings and nature, be positive about our interaction with our planet and mindful of its natural resources.Upon reaching Cub stage growth is actively encouraged by the awarding of merit badges for projects and tasks completed in small groups as set out by the National Scout Training Programme.
