
Local historian Kieran McCarthy will be the speaker at Lifetime Lab on Lee Road as part of Culture Night on Friday 19th September at 7.00 p.m. Kieran will explore the rich culture of the River Lee valley from source to mouth, its people and places. Kieran writes a weekly heritage column in the Cork Independent newspaper and has being exploring and writing on the Lee Valley over the past two years.
As well as the fascinating insight presented by Kieran, visitors are free to explore the old waterworks buildings which still contain the old steam engines and pumps used to supply water to the city of Cork since the 1760’s. The journey will finish at the modern interactive exhibits that inform on how everyday choices affect our natural environment learn a little about the importance of water in the development of Cork. Lifetime Lab will be open free to the public from 6.00 p.m. - 9.00 p.m. with the culture bus arriving/departing approximately every 20 minutes.
Over thirty organisations will take part in Cork Cultural Night with the majority of the cultural buildings extending their opening hours to midnight and putting on once off free performances and events.
