Discover Cork Schools Heritage Project

The Discover Cork Schools Heritage Project - Cork City 2008 Edition was launched by the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Brian Birmingham at the Lifetime Lab Wednesday 10th of September 2008 with the students and teachers of Scoil Mhuire.

The Discover Cork Schools Heritage Project is an action from the Cork City Heritage Plan. The project is aimed at both primary and post-primary schools.  There are a number of categories and prizes available and students can enter as an individual, in a group or as part of a class project.

Projects can be submitted on any aspect of Cork’s rich Heritage and can include topics like Cork’s old railway lines, street furniture or the River Lee and can include subjects such as architecture, archaeology and even natural heritage and human impacts.  It could also include the history of a famous Cork family, or even a favourite place in Cork.

This could include the role of the first citizen, past Lord Mayors and the many historic objects and traditions associated with the Lord Mayor.

The closing date for submission of application forms is the end September and the prizegiving will be in March of 2009.  All the details are available in the brochures below or by contacting the Discover Cork Schools Heritage Project coordinator Kieran McCarthy at 086 6553389.
