Tuesday 18th September 2007 saw Eamon Ryan, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural resources pay a visit to Cork City Energy Agency (CCEA).
Minister Ryan was welcomed by John Walsh, CCEA Manager and Michael O'Brien, Senior Engineer, Environment. John Walsh outlined the various energy initiatives currently operated by Cork City Council, which include converting methane from Kinsale Road Landfill into electricity, hydro-electricity generated at Lee Road as well as bio-fuel powering the city council fleet.

The minister complemented Cork City Council on the various initiatives currently in operation and stressed the role that local authorities will play in providing alternative energy solutions in the future.
Cork City Energy Agency is a section of the Cork City Council Environment Directorate. It was founded in the late 90’s with the assistance of EU funding. The agency aims to develop, ratify and implement coherent energy policy for Cork City Council. To this end, Cork City Council has spearheaded many energy initiatives and through these actions we contributed in the promotion of renewable energy and sustainable initiatives. The agency has also contributed to the development of energy policy at local, national an EU level.
Cork City Energy Agency is located at Lifetime Lab with an information centre open to all visitors and aims to provide information on different environmental topics including Energy, Waste and Water.
