A Host of sporting superstars gathered to support the forthcoming Darren Swanton Memorial Rally Sprint at the official launch at Lifetime Lab, Cork footballer Noel O’ Leary, Munster rugby’s Billy Holland and British rally champion Keith Cronin were present to launch the event due to take place at the former Kinsale Road Landfill on May 22nd.
The rally, now in its second year hopes to raise €50,000 for Marymount Hospice which will move to its new home in Bishopstown later this year. Close to one hundred entrants will compete against the clock to secure the perpetual Darren Swanton Cup in speed trials along the 2km track with teams travelling from all over Ireland and the UK for one of the rally circuits most prestigious and unique events.
The event will also offer family fun with a tented village containing market stalls, trade stands and a play zone. On the day the organisers hope to set new world records with the fastest landfill speed record and the fastest assembly of a Massey Ferguson tractor.
