The ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards recognise and reward the achievements of young people in environmental protection and are open to any group of young people, aged 10-18, who carry out an environmental action project on key environmental issues including creative recycling. ECO-UNESCO has run the Young Environmentalist Awards programme since 1999 with over 28,000 young people participating in that time. The ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards are an exciting and fun way to empower young people to become better citizens, to build awareness of environmental issues in their locality and promote simple actions and lifestyle changes to improve the environment for all. Taking part is a great way to develop new skills, make a difference, make friends, and have fun!
In 2012, participating groups will once again be in with a chance to attend Regional finals, Dragons Den Style ECO-Dens where they pitch their project to a panel of judges. Regional finalists then attend the annual National Showcase and Awards Ceremony event held in May each year. There, participants will get a chance to showcase their work, meet TV celebrities and win fantastic prizes.
The deadline for registration has been extended to 23rd December 2011, so don’t miss your chance to be part of the ECO-Action! Registration is FREE and project ideas can be changed after registration. All registered projects can take advantage of ECO-UNESCO’s advice and support as their projects progress.
School teachers, youth leaders or any interested young people can register groups of 2-20 young people (aged 10-18) at www.ecounesco.ie or by contacting ECO-UNESCO at +353 1 6625491, yea@ecounesco.ie
