Lifetime Lab celebrates Science Week 2006

Lifetime Lab was buzzing with activity last week as it hosted a series of events to mark Science Week Ireland 2006, which ran from 12th-19th November.

Primary school children from Cork city and county took part in science workshops relating to Energy and Electricity.

In addition to the regular Lifetime Lab workshops that are available to 3rd-6th class pupils, Lifetime Lab also ran a series of workshops for schools visiting the Discovery 2006 a major three day science exhibition at the City Hall Cork.

Cork Hurler and Electrical Engineer at Du Puy, Ringaskiddy, Dónal Óg Cusack visited Lifetime Lab on Monday and on Wednesday Lifetime Lab were delighted to welcome 6th class from Scoil Chaitigheirn, Eyeries, Beara who travelled from West Cork to attend a workshop and the Discovery 2006 exhibition.

Outside of school time Lifetime Lab ran a Science Week Science Club for children from 10-12 years old. During an hour long session of hands on activities children constructed a simple circuit and then went on to make a battery from copper coins, tin foil, kitchen paper, vinegar and salt. They powered small lights and buzzers with the electric current they had generated themselves.
